OUR LEADERSHIP
PARISH PRIEST (PASTOR)
Fr. Robert-Charles (Shane) Bengry, serves as our Pastor. Father was born and raised on the Canadian prairie but has lived and served in British Columbia and Manitoba as well. He earned a Bachelor of Design, Diploma of Christian Studies and Master of Divinity in Vancouver and served a three-point rural parish in the Anglican Diocese of Brandon for seven years. He also completed a course of study and formation to become a Roman Catholic Priest. Father Bengry was ordained to the transitional diaconate at our Cathedral of Our Lady of Walsingham, Houston TX on the Feast of the Dedication of St. John Lateran Basilica, 2017 and ordained to the Priesthood on the Solemnity of Sts. Peter & Paul, 2018. He was appointed Dean of the St. John the Baptist Deanery of the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter on 1 July 2022.
PARISH PRIEST (PAROCHIAL VICAR)
Fr. Sean-Patrick Beahen is the Parochial Vicar at St. John’s. He hails from the nation’s capital via Vancouver and most recently via Brandon, Manitoba. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Vancouver and was educated in theology through The School of Theology, Sewanee: The University of the South, supplemented with courses in homiletics, Greek, ethics, Anglican Ethos, and History at the Vancouver School of Theology; he also completed a course of study and formation to become a Roman Catholic Priest. MUSIC DIRECTOR
Luke Haslbeck first studied the organ at the Our Lady of the Assumption church in Calgary, Alberta. He was appointed organ scholar at St. John the Evangelist on June 28, 2021 and is currently studying to complete a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Calgary. Previous to his time at St. John’s, he spent time working as a volunteer organist for the St. Francis Xavier Chaplaincy at St. Bernard’s parish and St. Mary’s Cathedral. In addition to his experience with the organ, he also runs a piano studio with students primarily from Holy House and the Gilbertine Academy. He was made Music Director and Primary Organist on 4 June, 2023.
SEXTON & BUSINESS MANAGER
Mr. Bob Harrod. Mr. Bob Harrod is our Sexton and Business Manager responsible for finance, security, maintenance, and an hundred other details as they pertain to the care of the church. He can be reached at: finance.sje@ordinariate.ca
SACRISTANS
Mr. Peter Bentley, a long-time member of the parish, is the Head Sacristan at St. John’s. He’s responsible for the ‘behind the scenes work’ of the liturgy and leads a team of fine volunteers who ensure the Mass and public prayer is well provided for. Sr. Myrna-Mary is the Assistant Sacristan and mainly attends to the weekday Masses.
VERGER
Mr. Bruce Travis, Treasurer of the St. John the Baptist Deanery of the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter, serves as our Parish Verger. His duties are varied and he’s a great help in the practical day-to-day operations of the parish.
